OUR NAME
In becoming a multi-site church, we needed a new name that works in any location. Now changing a church name is a pretty big deal so our leaders established 3 criteria the new name would have to meet: (1) it must point to Christ and His salvation in some way, (2) it must make sense to our local contexts (i.e. the mission fields we’re trying to reach) and (3) it mustn’t already be the name of another church that’s close to us geographically or denominationally (to avoid causing offence). After establishing these criteria we then invited our congregations to submit suggestions and received more than 50. After a year of prayerful consideration and voting rounds, the suggestion eventually approved by a majority vote of our leaders was – Mountview Presbyterian Church.
We see the name “Mountview” as pointing to Christ for as our above logo makes clear, Jesus was crucified on a small mount or hill. Hence Christ & His salvation freely offered through the cross is what we firmly have in view as a community. We also see “Mountview” make sense to our local contexts for mountains are visible from the Tuggeranong valley, Jerrabomberra and we anticipate the same to be true of any locations we plant further campuses in the future as well.
All of the above is why we’re now known as Mountview @ Gowrie, Mountview @ Jerra, etc, for though we exist in multiple locations, we’re still one big church family.
